Merry Christmas was hijacked by merchants in favour of more important money-making slogans such as Black Friday, 50 per cent discounts, and various promotions designed to relieve you of your cash.
Like an advancing tsunami, millions of shoppers rudely and aggressively swept their way through stores and malls coast to coast leaving a trail of tossed garments, shoes, and other merchandise on floors, clothing racks, aisles, washrooms or purses.
They also left behind an army of tired, worn out clerks, some so sick of working with the public they either quit or booked off sick. Speaking from personal experience, working with the public is not a picnic. Close encounters of the worst kind, in other words.
Shoppers can be categorized as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
And believe me, every single underpaid, harassed, overwhelmed, frightened, exhausted and run-offtheir-feet store clerk in this country can relate a hundred horror stories attempting to satisfy demanding and impatient customers during the festive season.
Forget special days such as special valentines flowers, where modern day couples just sit across from each other and text, cell phone, or multipod throughout dinner. Drop it entirely for a more meaningful celebration in January or February.
We need a National Clerk Appreciation Day, where shoppers like you can reflect on their pushy, rude and often abusive behaviour during Happy Holidays towards clerks. They in fact dropped while you shopped.
Drop in and bring flowers or chocolates. A movie ticket would be nice. Put yourself in their shoes and imagine what hell they went through trying to keep you a satisfied customer. Express a little charity, a simple thank you and a belated Merry Christmas!special valentines flowers
